2018 is fast-approaching and it’s great to get to the final weeks of December and look back on yet another successful year at RPS!
We have had an outstanding 12 months, so we thought we would share with you our highlights and memorable moments.
As a conscientious and environmentally aware company, our environmental objectives for the year were outlined at the beginning of 2017. These were to reduce our environmental impact by measuring tangible objectives. We aimed to reduce the consumption of materials, from paper usage to fork lift truck diesel throughout the firm, and we’re pleased to say we achieved this goal!
This year we were delighted to welcome two new members to our team, Emma, our customer account manager, who joined us back in February, and more recently Josh, who came onboard as the new team administrator.
A third member of the team was also welcomed in April – our new vehicle! Having been fully refurbished, the Mercedes Atego 18te was ready to take on collections and deliveries across the country and boy, has it done us proud!
Since the introduction of our vehicle, we have been able to plan journeys effectively so that for every journey, pallets are being moved either by delivering or being picked up. It has ultimately reduced the number of empty trips made and our carbon footprint.
This year, we’ve also taken advantage of our work within the Pallet Co-Operative, allowing us to cut the distance pallets travel to be sorted, repaired and prepared for reuse. Over the last 12 months, for just two of our collection points, we’ve been able to redirect more than 90 full loads of pallets to one of our strategically place partners and reduced the number of miles travelled by 9,432!
After months of hard work, we have reduced the number of deliveries from two of our suppliers, from 93 (during 2015/16) to 65 deliveries (during 2016/17). That’s a reduction of a whopping 30%!
We’re also proud to say we have had a successful year helping others. In May we sponsored the 20th annual Stokesley Charity Bike Ride for the fourth year running, in aid of Make-A-Wish Foundation. We were also approached by the Memusi Foundation and Freiraum Kollektive to help build a wooden pallet home prototype. The future aim is to create ‘pallet’ homes in Kenya giving families a safe, warm and dry place to live.
August was a big month for RPS as we turned 15! To celebrate, the team went to Thirsk Races for the day. There was much fun amid the winning (and losing!) - but that’s the joy of the races!
The RPS website also received a facelift alongside our birthday, where we refined our services into three simple categories: supply, collect and recovery for reuse, making our services more streamlined and understandable for our customers.
We exhibited at two trade shows this year. First was the RWM 2017 exhibition and then the team also had a brilliant time celebrating UK Construction Week at the Build Show. We took our pallet FLT game along with us to both exhibitions and visitors took part (quite competitively!). Players took on the challenge of driving a small remote-controlled fork lift truck, picking up pallets and taking them from one side of the board to the other. We even had a leader board, just to make it a little more competitive. It’s safe to say a lot of fun was had!
As you can see, we’ve been very busy bees and we certainly aren’t slowing down in 2018!
