You may remember last year we made the exciting announcement that we had teamed up with the Memusi Foundation and Freiraum Kollective to help build wooden pallet homes in Kenya.
Earlier this month, the organisations exhibited at Ecobuild 2018, demonstrating their innovative idea.
Ecobuild welcomed over 26,000 visitors and more than 450 exhibitors to the ExCeL in London. The exhibition generated a lot of interest and excitement in the project, as the organisations shared their vision to give families a safe, warm and dry place to live.
Memusi Foundation, which works directly with communities in Kenya and Tanzania to provide hope through education, has been working with the Freiraum Kollektive, a non-profit organisation working with diverse communities to develop architectural prototypes, events, workshops and exhibitions, to help make the pallet home dream a reality.
Memusi Foundation’s Founder, Matthew Norton, said: “Ecobuild was a brilliant success! It was lovely to hear that there was interest in the project and great to be able to spread awareness of what it is we’re trying to achieve.”
Sally Norton, of the Memusi Foundation, added: “There were some very interesting ideas and suggestions passed on and we had lots of interest in the project, which was fantastic to see!”
Following several trials, a pilot build of a pallet home is due to take place in Halifax later this year.
