RPS’ war on waste

Saving your waste can save you money

It’s devastating to think that out of the 600 million tonnes of products that enter the UK economy each year, only 115 million tonnes of this gets recycled (WRAP, 2015). Statistics like this are why we at RPS do what we do, in order to change the way the country and the world feels about waste. Are you ready to join us and fight in our war against waste?

Unfortunately, the answer to this question is not often yes, but what is good to know, is we’re not alone in this battle. Celebrity-chef turned TV presenter, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, is also on a mission to change the way we think about waste, as highlighted on the TV. His BBC One programme, ‘Hugh’s War on Waste’ sees him challenging supermarkets and the fast food industry and proposes that they not only tackle the amount of waste they produce but also reiterate the importance of recycling.

We strongly believe it’s important we all do our bit to help the world, and despite a big effort made by countries around the globe to tackle the issues surrounding waste, many people still have misconstrued ideas and opinions about recycling. Some believe the task is inconvenient and difficult to do because you have to sort through your waste. There are those who believe recycling doesn't make a difference and even individuals who are under the impression that products made from recycling goods may be substandard.

Are you aware our planet’s raw materials are diminishing as a consequence of the rubbish dumped into landfill sites during the last 10 years? Companies are now having to mine these sites, in order to extract precious metals, recyclable plastics and glass – all which should have been recycled.

At RPS, we strongly believe in the recycling and reuse of not just pallets but all raw materials. We’re already supporting National Tree Week (28th November – 6th December) by reusing pallets - instead of chopping down more trees - to replenish stocks and utilise a product which already exists, helping to preserve the precious raw materials.

We’re constantly working extra hard with our clients to not only reduce their waste and increase their recycling, but also help them to save money, as they do not need to buy expensive new replacement pallets.  Also, by using a reconditioned pallet, businesses we work with are reducing their carbon footprint. This is because a reconditioned pallet’s carbon footprint is less than that of a new pallet, due to the processes used to produce a new pallet, which involves heavy machinery and transport.

We’ve already worked with large companies including…

  • Homebase
  • Argos
  • Huntsman Tioxide
If you’re interested in making a change and helping to support your planet, by switching to reconditioned pallets, then call us on 01642 465556.
