Back in April, we announced (rather excitedly) how we had been shortlisted for the Waste Prevention Award at this year’s National Recycling Awards.

Our entry looked at the reuse of used packaging, predominantly wooden pallets, to prevent waste. It was as a team we decided to enter this particular category of the awards, because we pride ourselves as a company in providing the best environmental options for used packaging.

On Friday, 20th May, RPS directors, Gary Hudson and Owen Hines, headed down to London and delivered a presentation in front of a panel of three judges, each environmental specialists in their respective fields.

It was a chance for all shortlisted companies to emphasise the great work businesses are doing to reduce overall waste, whether it be food waste, scrap furniture or in the case of RPS, packaging waste such as used wooden pallets.

Gary and Owen both felt the presentation went well and they emphasised the message of how reuse can eliminate waste and changing behaviour of managing packaging waste can save the environment and money.

With the awards ceremony taking place on 6th July at the Hilton in London’s Park Lane area, we don’t have too long to wait before we find out if our entry has been successful.

Our Marketing Director Tom is excited to be going to the event and will be keeping the rest of the team updated on the evening, via Twitter, when the winner of the waste prevention category is announced.

Fingers crossed everybody!
