It’s time to cleanse your pallet

As Summer has firmly drawn to a close and most of us are back in full work-mode, we thought it would be the perfect time to share a simple health check on pallet collections to make sure you’re getting the best value from your used pallets.

Pallets come in all shapes and sizes. They can provide a welcome rebate or sometimes the sting of a disposal charge.

RPS is here to take the hassle out of pallets and to make sure you get the best value possible - that’s why we’ve produced this pallet health check. Have a go and if you would like to discuss any points in more detail, give us a call.

1. Do you get the best value for your used pallets?

Have you recently evaluated your current pallets’ rebates or collection charges? If not, RPS would be happy to offer a free of charge consultation to find the most competitive rates and provide you with the best value for your used pallets.

2. Are your pallet collections performed compliantly?

Used pallets due for collection are deemed waste, even if you receive a rebate for them. When collecting, there are legal requirements that need to be adhered to, ensuring full compliance. Collection companies need documentation, including a waste carrier’s license, waste handling permits and waste transfer notes. The latter also means the correct EWC codes and waste descriptions are used to ensure full compliance. RPS can help make sure all pallet collections are completed compliantly. Here’s our online audit pack containing all of our certification.

3. Are your collection service levels being met?

How long would you expect to wait for a collection to take place or subsequent reports to be issued? Are your pallet collections sometimes completely forgotten? Has your haulier not booked in or do drivers not have compliant paperwork? Service levels should be a high priority for all waste collections. This not only helps with the legal requirements mentioned above, but also means unwanted pallets do not take up valuable space on your site. Please read our case studies, which demonstrate the exemplary service levels we provide all our customers.

4. Do your waste collection partners apply the Waste Hierarchy to your used pallets?

For every pallet RPS collects, we apply the Waste Hierarchy. Firstly, we’ll determine whether reuse is possible. If it is, RPS will repair the pallet back to full working specification and supply fit for purpose pallets back into the market. Where reuse is not possible, we send pallets for recycling. This would be our last option; chipping pallets for biomass and energy recovery. At no point will any pallets go to landfill. To ensure full duty of care on all your pallet collections and to know the most sustainable option will be applied, please give us a call.

5.Do you have an ongoing sustainability plan for your pallets?

If you generate unwanted pallets, as a business you have a corporate social responsibility to make sure there is an ongoing sustainability plan in place for all your site waste. RPS can help you meet this obligation by taking the hassle out of pallet management and providing a forward-thinking sustainable plan for pallet reuse, recycling or disposal.

If you have any questions about the points above, then RPS can help. It is our aim to take the hassle out of pallets and we can implement a clear, structured collection service which will provide the best value for your pallets.
