This week is one of our favourites because it’s National Recycling Week which is the perfect time to help businesses recycle more.
As you already know, (because we keep telling you) recycling is very important for our environment and our economy, and it’s essential businesses find as many ways they can to reduce, reuse and recycle.
At RPS, we love nothing more than helping businesses from all industries, such as the chemical and retail sectors, to reduce waste and reuse existing transit packaging, predominantly wooden pallets.
There are many shocking statistics we found and we wanted, no, needed to share some of them with you:
- The UK produces more than 100 million tonnes of waste every year, with this figure increasing by 3% year on year
- Enough waste is produced each day in the UK to fill Trafalgar Square up to the height of Nelson’s Column
- On average, each person in the UK throws away their own body weightin rubbish every 7 weeks
- UK households throw away up to £400worth of potentially edible food every year
- Up to 80%of the contents of a dustbin could be easily recycled or composted
The UK has many legislative recycling targets which must be met, so we need to do our best as a nation to help to ensure these targets are achieved.
There are numerous ways you and your business can recycle more including:
- Implementing a waste paper recycling bin in your office at work
- Recycling glass jars as well as bottles
- Or one of our favourites, reusing existing pallets to reduce waste
