Whether you’re a seasoned rider or have a New Year’s resolution to achieve, the Stokesley Charity Bike Ride is definitely a great opportunity to get fit and help raise money for local charities!
Cyclists from across the region are gearing up for the 21st annual bike ride, which will take place on Sunday 13th May.
We’re hoping it will be a record breaking year as the 30-mile circular bike ride around Stokesley has raised over £138,000 for a number of local charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Herriot Hospice Homecare and Bloodwise, over the last 20 years.
We’re delighted to be once again sponsoring the event for the fifth year in a row.
This year participants will be raising money for Save Our Strays, a dog charity based near Guisborough.
Save Our Strays is a small local rescue charity, which is run by Margaret Young, Peter White and other members. They help numerous unwanted or abused dogs from the local area and care for them until they can be rehomed. The vet bills the organisation encounters can be several hundreds of pounds each month, so every penny really does help.
Last year, 330 riders took part in the Stokesley Charity Bike Ride in order to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, in support of a much-loved member of the community, Jack Iveson, who received treatment locally for cancer. Thanks to their amazing efforts, they raised an astounding £7,600!
Since 1998 the annual bike ride has been a tradition and has thrived ever since. The first event came about after event organiser, Paul Mackintosh, volunteered to do a bike ride for a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, Chloe Brown, who was suffering from a very rare form of cancer.
The rest as they say is history and the event’s success continues to flourish year-on-year.
The dedication of each person involved in the event is wonderful! It’s fantastic to see the community come together to help raise awareness of the outstanding work the nominated charities do.
