In 2013 RPS scooped the Gold Award at the quarterly judged Lets Recycle Zero Waste Awards. On Thursday 10th April 2014 recipients of the Lets Recycle award during 2013 joined together at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire to meet like-minded businesses and to receive their awards at a presentation luncheon.

The recognition luncheon, which was set in the stunning surroundings of Coombe Abbey, brought together winners from across the UK who had proven their determination to promote and implement zero waste activities, exemplified by accepting an award presented by the sponsors Saica Natur and WasteCare.

There was a diverse range of sectors represented, including universities, retail outlets and industrial businesses, which demonstrates how our society understands the importance of reducing waste and reusing or recycling where possible.

The key note speaker was the Green Party’s deputy leader councillor Will Duckworth who gave an inspirational speech regarding how waste should be considered in the UK and should waste be a word we use at all? As RPS concurs, Cllr Duckworth enforced that reducing the possibility of waste is important but reuse is even more essential. If none of the previous waste hierarchy options can be applied then recycling should be the last resort, turning existing products into new and usable products.

The message couldn’t have been clearer during the day – waste should be eliminated wherever possible and there are many companies across a range of industry sectors that are trying to achieve this. RPS could not agree with this more and this is demonstrated by the significant savings made for many of its clients through the reuse of wooden pallets, big bags and bulk containers.
