This week there are two exhibitions which relate to waste management and sustainability taking place. Events like these are a great platform for demonstrating that there is always another option when it comes to waste management, even if the current method you use is environmentally sustainable.
The first is edie Live, taking place on May 21st and 22nd at the NEC in Birmingham. It is the only UK event which connects energy, sustainability and resource professionals with the information they need to make their businesses more sustainable.
edie Live attracts thousands of visitors each year to meet innovative exhibitors and take part in hours of information-packed seminars, interactive product trials, one-to-one advice clinics and great networking.
At the 2018 exhibition, edie Live launched the Mission Possible campaign, set to inspire and empower businesses to accelerate efforts across all areas of sustainable development. This year they are showing businesses how to turn ambition into action by making a number of step-changes.
The second exhibition is Letsrecycle Live which is presented by letsrecycle.com, a leading news publication and events provider for the sector. It will showcase the latest industry developments, opportunities and equipment in a live environment.
Taking place on May 22nd and 23rd the event consists of six different show zones, three conference theatres and various free networking events.
Both exhibitions are raising awareness of the need for a more efficient way to manage waste. The general perception of waste management has shifted in recent years, in particular the ‘plastic waste crisis’ and brands are now changing their packaging in order to reduce plastic waste.
Fast food chains and pubs have moved from plastic to paper straws in a bid to reduce their environmental impact and festival organisers are urging retailers to stop selling single-use tents in order to promote the mantra ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’.
There has been a recent announcement of a bottle deposit scheme in Scotland where all shops, which sell drinks, will offer a deposit refund of 20p for glass, plastic and aluminium containers. The initiative will reduce waste, slow down the depletion of natural resources and boost the circular economy.
