The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is coming

There are some key changes ahead for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which will impact all businesses operating within the EU.

GDPR replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organisations approach data privacy.

Due to be enforced by May 25th 2018, the main alterations include the following:

  • Written consent must be gained before collecting personal data
  • People must be able to withdraw their data easily
  • Contacts have the right to obtain confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning them is being processed, where and for what purpose and the controller must provide a copy of the personal data, free of charge, in an electronic format, if required
Regardless of whether your business is local or international, you must comply with the new regulations for secure collection, storage, and usage of personal data.

Why have these changes been drafted?

The EU wants to give people more control over how their personal data is used.

Data must be processed lawfully and transparently by businesses and not shared without consent.

As we like to stay ahead of the game, we’re already implementing some of these important changes throughout our business.

We love keeping our clients up-to-date with the latest pallet news, waste legislation updates and generally what’s happening here at RPS and we do this by sending out regular e-newsletters.

Our e-newsletters used to have an ‘unsubscribe’ option for the recipient to ‘opt out’ of future correspondence. However, the changes mean that recipients must now ‘opt in’, via written confirmation, to receive marketing emails.

If you’d like to continue to receive our e-newsletters and emails, or if you’re completely new to our services and want to get to know us, you must ‘opt in’ to join our database by signing up. You can do this via the following link: http://rpsltd.com/gdpr.html
