In May the RPS General Manager, Owen Hines, and Logistics Manager, Thomas Hudson, visited Ireland as part of its ongoing efforts to understand and review its Irish customer collection points and recovery of the extended range of transit packaging, including pallets, drums, IBCs and FIBCs. The visit was a great success with a number of collection points reviewed including our Irish collection partner Pallet Supplies, based in Co. Cavan. Collection and recovery performance was reviewed with each customer to see where improvements could be made by both the customer and RPS to ensure high numbers of reusable packaging is being recovered.
As part of the IPS Network Owen discussed the option of collecting not only pallets but IBCs and drums. There was a very receptive response with encouragement from customers who believed it would be beneficial to reuse the packaging rather than send out the items as waste.
