The granddaughter of a former RPS employee was earlier this year diagnosed with Leukaemia. Marion Gowland’s granddaughter, Holly Toner-Gowland, was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the end of May, following a family holiday to Portugal.
Krysta Eaves of the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette reported that, rather than “curling up in a corner” following the news, Holly’s parents Andy and Lucy decided to set up the charity Hope For Holly. Lucy said, “I can’t even explain how I felt when we were told. It’s your worst nightmare come true. It’s the worst thing that can ever be spoken.”
Holly has spent most of her time at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary since the diagnosis and her parents have found it hard to believe how brave she has been during her treatments. The only thing to make her cry has been removing her sticking plasters. Medics hope her treatment will finish by July 2014.
