We can hardly contain our excitement as RPS has been shortlisted for the Waste Prevention Award at this year’s National Recycling Awards.

As a team, we decided to enter RPS for this particular award because we pride ourselves in providing the best environmental options for used packaging. This embraces the collection of pallets for reuse to ultimately reduce waste and encourage environmental and economic sustainability for our clients.

We wanted our award entry to highlight what we do best and most importantly, what we are passionate about as a company, which is finding innovative ways to prevent waste.

Our entry looked at the reuse of used packaging, predominantly wooden pallets, to prevent waste. To back this up, we included key case studies to help strengthen the work we do for our clients including:

  • The collection of Cummins’ bespoke packaging, formerly deemed scrap after a single trip, and returning the refurbished units back to America for reuse.
  • The collection of almost 200K pallets ex-Home Retail Group (HRG) UK distribution centres. Demonstrating our initiative we also identified other packaging waste generated by HRG and established an environmentally preferable solution for scrap chipboard sheets.
Everyone at RPS is over the moon with the shortlist announcement and there is a constant buzz in the office. It’s a fantastic feeling knowing our work has been recognised by the NRA and we can’t wait to see what happens in the coming months.

The next stage of the award process is a presentation to a judging panel which our Managing Director Gary and Business Development Director Owen will be delivering on the 20th May.

Last year almost 700 people attended the awards to witness the innovative work UK companies have achieved in recycling and waste prevention.
