RPS has secured the contract for a major food distributor collecting empty pallets from their four UK distribution centres. The company, based in the north of England, purchases foodstuffs and ingredients from manufacturers who then supply the UK's food market. The contract that began on the 10th Jan 2011 is worth an estimated 50,000 pallets per annum.
"Transparency and regularity was the key to winning the new business" says RPS General Manager, Owen Hines. Previously, pallets were stored at each distribution centre and four different collection companies would arrange clearances. The collections were at best adhoc and created a big problem as Health and Safety policy stated that no wooden pallets can be stored outside overnight. Each day the pallets had to be moved outside in the morning to create adequate work space and then returned back inside again on an evening. RPS agreed to clear each site at least once a week with a minimum collection quantity of 25 pallets, which was a very attractive, hassle-free option.
Another major ongoing benefit is that the company only has one point of contact and one monthly invoice instead having to deal with four separate pallet collection companies. By utilising the RPS service the company will measurably increased their revenue per annum from something that was previously considered a waste stream.
