Once again it has been a busy year here at RPS. We have settled into our new surroundings and are now looking forward to another exciting year ahead.

As austere times were still lingering over the economy, RPS has helped its clients to ease the pinch through reduced waste costs and increased profits. Packaging recovery for reuse and site clearances have sustainably reduced costs and alleviated our clients of some of the economic burden. Looking forward to 2014 we are hoping to distribute our services to a wider market and continue to increase both environmental sustainability and profits for our clients.

The RPS Year in figures

  • 50,000 FIBC big bags inspected and returned to our clients.
  • 155,000 pallets recovered and supplied to our clients.
  • 1,300 customer collections raised.
  • And another 70 worms approximately born in the RPS wormery!

In May, RPS started site clearances from the Hammerite (Akzo Nobel) site at Prudhoe. This activity was introduced to incorporate a full site clearance service of all industrial transit packaging from the site, including wooden pallets, IBCs and drums.

Throughout the year RPS has also started working with Sun Chemicals Ltd, Primex Plastics and Lytag Ltd.

RPS won the gold award at June’s Let’s Recycle Zero Waste Awards. It was a fantastic achievement that demonstrates the commitment of the entire RPS team to ensure the best possible actions are implemented in the handling of waste.

In the summer RPS were recognised as a subcontractor of Veolia Environmental Services. Exciting changes for Veolia started with the appointment of Estelle Brachlianoff as head of the company’s UK operations in July. She has since set about moving the company towards being recognised as a manufacturer of green products rather than a waste manager. This goes hand in hand with the RPS ethos of packaging recovery for reuse and encouraging sustainability within packaging.

October saw RPS hold their Launch Day at the fully refurbished Maltby site. It was a privilege to have Entrepreneurs’ Forum Chairman Nigel Mills officially open the site in front of many RPS colleagues and customers. It was a proud moment in the history of the company.

RPS employed their first apprentice in November. Liam Johnson was appointed with the intention to educate him in the benefits of sustainability through packaging recovery for reuse. He told us what he thought of the business during a ‘Meet the Team’ interview. The full article will be in our January newsletter.

In December RPS got their biomass boiler fully approved and installation is planned for early January, just in time for the cold weather. The introduction of the biomass, utilising some of the wood waste generated on site, will enable RPS to reduce their consumption of fossil fuels, practically eliminating the use of them on site. It is a greener way to produce energy to heat the RPS offices and workshops and ensures that RPS is continually improving their business model to further increase efficiencies at the Maltby site.

Setting the standard for a prosperous 2014

As we close the door to a busy and successful 2013, RPS has spent the last few months looking forward to 2014 and the opportunities and challenges it faces. As ever RPS is aiming for to go beyond the successes of 2013 and with our ‘Growth Accelerator’ trained team we have set the objectives required to develop the business.

From an operational point of view, the RPS team has already implemented improvements to our inspection and repair techniques and purchased the best equipment currently on the market to help achieve the proposed targets. These changes will set the path for 2014 to enable larger numbers of units to be handled by the team and to the best of their ability.

With the prospect of some exciting new business contracts and new services due to start early in the New Year the entire team is looking forward to promising outlook for 2014.

Charity Fundraiser

RPS would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who has supported our Twitter charity fundraisers throughout the year. An amazing £239.90 has been raised this year for regional charities . . . but we can do better than that!

The first fundraiser in 2014 will be in January. The charity that we will be donating to is the South Tees Hospitals General Charitable Fund and Other Related Charities, on behalf of James Cook Holistic Cancer Care (Registered Charity: 1056061). Let’s improve on last year’s annual total by giving the first fundraiser of the new year a big push.

A big thank you to everyone!

RPS would also like to thank all of its clients, associates and employees for a fantastic year and we look forward to working with each and every one of you in 2014. Next year is set to be a busy one and we are very excited with all the approaching prospects.

We hope you have a very Merry Christmas and wish you all the best for 2014!
