Fantastic achievements throughout 2012 It has been a very busy year for RPS with plenty to report. Earlier this year RPS won the contract to begin collecting Evonik pallets from Unilever in Warrington for return to the Evonik site in Rheinfelden, Germany. RPS, through their expertise in reverse logistics and packaging inspection and repair has saved Evonik over 37% on the cost of new packaging for every recovered pallet they have returned to Germany for reuse.

In September, RPS commenced work with global engine design and manufacturing company Cummins with the first container load of reusable wooden packaging items being returned to the USA in November. Also, RPS has initiated work with Brenntag, delivering pallets to their Scunthorpe site to distribute chemicals to UK customers.

Birthday Celebrations August was a great time for celebration as RPS proudly enjoyed its 10th Birthday with colleagues at Thirsk Racecourse. The excitement was high for the RPS sponsored race which was won by David Nicholls’ horse, Llewellyn. The celebration was more than just commemorating 10 years in business but the management also expressed their gratitude to all members of committed staff who have worked extremely hard over the last decade.

RPS: International Company of Accreditation It was also a time to celebrate the achievement of gaining and maintaining our accreditation of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. RPS understands the importance of health and safety within the business and the wellbeing of its staff, along with environmental awareness, the hard work by the RPS team has been greatly appreciated in the preparation and management of the two accreditations.

Expanding the Business Arguably the biggest achievement of the year was the purchase of our new premises in Maltby, near Middlesbrough. The new site has been a great investment for RPS and allows the business to expand and develop further. Full details of the ‘Maltby Move’ will be in our January newsletter and available in the RPS Media Centre.

The RPS Year in figures

  • 50 completed packaging waste compliance by RPS Directors.
  • 420 tonnes of wood waste averted from landfill.
  • 48,000 FIBC big bags inspected and returned to our clients.
  • 160,000 pallets recovered and supplied to our clients.
  • 100 worms approximately born in the RPS wormery over the last 12 months!

Stacking up the objectives for 2013 Looking forward RPS is hoping for an equally successful year in 2013, aiming to go beyond the success of 2012. Each year all members of the RPS team are invited to submit a wish list to express what we would like from the business. All wish lists have now been sent in and the objectives are now set for the next 12 months.

Some of the wish list items and objectives have already been set in motion and include tasks such as increasing our environmental awareness through installation of energy saving devices. Energy from recovery is an important and sustainable process and through the installation of a wood burner RPS can reduce the amount of wood waste generated, heat the offices and external warehouses and in turn reduce the dependency of fossil fuel consumption.

RPS hope to get a wood burner installed to reduce waste wood and heat offices and warehouse

From an operational point of view, plans have been implemented to improve inspection and repair techniques through modern equipment and developed methods. This will strengthen our overall service by ensuring the best tools are being used to the best of our ability.

Along with some exciting new business contract opportunities in development our objectives are set to make a promising outlook for 2013.

A big thank you to everyone! RPS would like to thank all of its clients, associates and employees for a fantastic year and look forward to working with each and every one of you in 2013. The next year is set to be busy and we are very excited with all the prospects we will participate in over the next 12 months.
