What a year! It’s been another 12 months of extremely exciting prospects and business developments for RPS and we’re already looking forward to what next year holds in store.
During the last 12 months, legislation has increasingly promoted reuse and this has given RPS the opportunity to drive its packaging collection for reuse service forward. We have engaged with some exciting new contracts, working with clients in new sectors, primarily the retail sector. RPS has also expanded its presence in the sectors we currently work in by adding further value to new and existing clients.
A key development for RPS was building an additional warehouse at the Maltby site to provide more internal storage space and work stations. This was essential to handle the increased volumes of pallets and transit packaging received by the RPS team. It is fantastic news for RPS as it has given us the opportunity to take on more work and make our processes more efficient.
Overview
In April, with the enforcement of the WM2 legislation, RPS was able to maintain its collection service for customers such as Lonza and Hammerite (Akzo Nobel) of empty IBCs and drums. In partnership with our IBC and drum collection agents, RPS could continue collections for existing clients without disruption ensuring a smooth transition alongside the legislation update.
In conjunction with the clarification of WM2, RPS held a seminar at the Wilton Centre, Redcar, to engage with industrial peers and clients on how the legislation would affect businesses. Guest speaker Phil Pease, chairman of the Industrial Packaging Association, answered several questions many of which helped the audience to understand the changes in more detail and how to apply the new regulations to a working business.
The charity bike ride which took place in May was a great success with the money raised benefiting Herriot Hospice Homecare based in Northallerton. A presentation evening in November confirmed a total of over £3200 had been raised. This money was used by Herriot Hospice Homecare to purchase a new delivery vehicle for their furniture store based on Thurston Road, Northallerton. It has helped to make furniture donations possible and increase sales for the charity as guaranteed deliveries can now be made to its customers.
In the summer RPS launched their new website. The intention was to improve the visitor’s experience of the website by clearly setting out our products and services and making it easier to get in touch with us. Our feedback has been extremely positive and we’re glad the changes have made it easier to engage with RPS. Please take a look for yourself and let us know what you think.
During the year RPS also started to work with customers including Polestar Chantry, Lindam and several divisions of the Torque Group. RPS also started working with a leading European waste management company with the focus on used pallet collections and packaging waste solutions.
RPS also achieved their target of a £2M turnover during the last financial year. It’s a great achievement which we are hoping to exceed at the end of our next financial year.
A great landmark event for RPS was in April when we stopped using gas as a fuel to heat our offices and water. With the official switch on of our biomass boiler our gas usage was eliminated. Not only have we reduced our dependency on fossil fuels but we are now receiving renewable heat incentive (RHI) payments which make the installation of the boiler an environmental and cost effective solution.
