Today people around the globe will be marking World Environment Day, and here at RPS we couldn’t let something so close to our hearts go unnoticed!

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, so with a damaged pallet that can no longer be used for transporting goods and more than a little creative genius, we set to work.

Dave, our task force operative, used the wood to build some box planters. They’re the height of garden fashion (or so we’re told), bringing a ‘rustic chic’ look to patios and decking; ideal for growing herbs and flowers.

We then challenged our staff to grow plants that would help them become sustainable. Results have varied, but we’ve seen some great success with herbs and lettuce, which are growing steadily. The concept; encourage self-sufficiency over reliance on supermarkets.

Herbs and salad from supermarkets is far costlier than growing your own at home (we love to save money, both for our customers and ourselves), as well as having a far greater impact on the environment, thanks to the plastic it is wrapped in and the food miles created throughout the production and logistics process.

World Environment Day is a huge initiative, aiming to increase awareness and action for the protection of our environment. There is a range of organised events and activities taking place globally, and you can take part too. Simply download a toolkit and get involved!

If you’re looking for a socially conscious pallet supplier, we’d love to hear from you. Call us on 01642 465556 or tweet us your questions @RPS_Limited.
