RPS teams up with charities to help build pallet homes

Latest News June 12, 2017 11:55 am

It’s an exciting time for RPS! We have teamed up with the Memusi Foundation and Freiraum Kollektive to help build wooden pallet homes in Kenya.

Memusi Foundation works directly with communities in Kenya and Tanzania to provide hope through education. Memusi School, Magadi, Kenya, was the first school the foundation started to work with and it has grown from six to over 350 pupils.

The Freiarum Kollektive is a non-profit organisation, which works with diverse communities to develop architectural prototypes, events, workshops and exhibitions.

We were approached by Matt Thomas, who is working alongside the charities to develop a prototype dwelling in South West Kenya.

Following house build trials, which took place with help from University of Huddersfield’s architect students, Matt asked RPS if we could donate pallets for a prototype build, which will take place this Summer in Yorkshire.

The part we’re playing in this project is to ensure the project’s success by supplying the pallets needed to create a prototype home which can be replicated in Kenya and give families a safe, warm and dry place to live.

The organisations involved are now looking for global logistics firms or African pallet companies which may be interested in sponsorship, by covering the cost of the first pallet homes to be built in Kenya.
