It’s National Apprenticeship Week, a week where businesses, schools, colleges and local communities are celebrating the positive impact apprentices have on people, organisations, the wider economy and most importantly the future.

Here at RPS, we teamed up with The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) to help it launch its inspirational book ‘Apprenticeship Greats’. And, we’re proud to announce, that our very own Director Tim Hutchinson has been featured, along with 200 of the North East’s most successful business people, who started their career as an apprentice.

Tim talks about the fundamental skills he learnt as an apprentice and how his starting career choice helped him become the Director he is today. Because of his experience, he understands how crucial National Apprenticeship Week is.

Tim said: “Starting work as an apprentice myself, I can relate to the importance of nurturing skills that can help develop the talent needed in workplaces.

“National Apprenticeship Week is definitely a key event in the business calendar to promote training and schemes to help provide a strong future for young workers.”

As business people, members of a community and parents ourselves, we recognise how beneficial apprenticeships are. In 2013 we took on apprentice Liam Johnson who’s currently studying for his NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing and Distribution, in conjunction with Stockton Riverside College.

Working closely with Liam, our Site Manager Jez Norton is developing a training plan for the 20 year old, as we’re delighted to offer him a full-time permanent role with the RPS team, once his scheme is complete this year.
