Resources and Waste Strategy: efficiently reducing waste

Latest News March 22, 2019 11:53 am

In recent months, the Government announced a Resources and Waste Strategy which sets out how it plans to preserve the material resources we use in our daily lives by minimising waste, promoting efficiency and moving towards a circular economy.

The aim is for the UK to become the world leader in using resources efficiently and reducing the amount of waste we create as a society. It wants to extend the life of the materials and goods that we use and move society away from the wasteful economic model of ‘take, make, use, throw’.

A circular economy will see us keeping resources in use for as long as possible, so that we can take the maximum value from them. Recovering and renewing products and materials will give them a new lease of life.

The process of recycling to return the material to a new, useable item is still quite a lengthy one. Yet the reuse process takes less time and energy to create a useable item, so, in line with the Government’s strategy, reuse is by far the most resource-efficient approach.

Businesses should have a responsibility to make sure that there is an ongoing sustainability plan in place for everything, including business’ site wastes. We can help you meet this goal by taking the hassle out of pallet management and providing a maintainable strategy for pallet reuse.

At RPS, we provide a service which helps to reduce our clients’ environmental impact. All companies have a duty of care to apply the best solution to waste. The pallet collections that we carry out are completed with the correct permits, licences and accreditations and they will either be reused, recycled or used for energy recovery.

We never send a pallet to landfill and we lead the way in the packaging waste sector to encourage the Government’s legislation of reuse over recycling and recovery. The recovery of pallets for reuse can help reduce packaging spend, as this process can be implemented with little effort and returning a reusable pallet is considerably cheaper than buying replacement ones.
