Be constructive! Make your business part of the solution to construction industry waste

Latest News August 1, 2018 1:49 pm

Today, construction waste is a hotly debated topic.

The issue of waste is so high on the agenda that the Global Construction Waste Management Market study has recently been released. A key objective of the study was to analyse and forecast the size of construction waste management in the global market.

While efforts have been made to reduce the industry’s waste issues and its impact on the environment, there is much more work to be done. And with 184,000 homes built in 2016/2017 in England alone, it is clear why.

For each house built in the UK, an average of 38 pallets of building materials are needed – a quick calculation therefore estimates almost seven million used pallets are generated per year in England.

Clearly pallets are part of the problem; the construction industry produces more than 100 million tonnes of waste each year. Of this total, three million tonnes is wood waste consisting of wooden pallets. By tackling the pallet issue, we can edge closer to a solution.

Our ability to collect and reuse pallets means that RPS can measurably save customers within the construction industry significant costs when compared to the amount spent on hiring wood skips for disposal.

Crucially for a sustainable future, our mission is more than solely helping businesses save money. Our aim is to assist our customers to reduce construction waste by implementing a circular economy concept into their business.

We ensure each collected pallet is sorted, inspected and where possible prepared for reuse. This prevents used pallets needlessly being chipped and recycled or used for energy recovery. The good pallets can be reused multiple times for their original purpose, to carry building products from supplier to site.

If you would like to find out how your business could implement a waste pallet solution to help lower construction waste, please get in touch with us.
